In Nykøbing there is a street -Østergade. The street is 600 meters long. Here live and lived some of the poorest and richest people on the island. Else Mathiassen was born in the old hospital. Now she lives in the residence obliquely opposite. Here the doctors to the east lived in the larger apartments and the nurses to the west in the smaller ones. The dividing line of the street between the richest and the poorest went right through this house.
Østergade is a street that, with side streets, contains the history of Else, her family and her city. The history of the provincial town, the citizen, has many names: Korsbæk or Jante or... In Else's tale it is Nykøbing.
Else Mathiassen: Narrator, dancer and lecturer. Head of the “Tell the Academy” Mors High School. Former high school superintendent.
The lecture consists of two parts, first a lecture at the Støberimuseet and then a walk through Østergade.
